Prevent steel or iron workpieces from rusting and other corrosion by applying a protective conversion coat to the metal surface using the chromate found in chromic acid as the chemical for the process of immersion bathing. Chromate conversion coatings are usually applied on everyday objects, such as tools and hardware.
